Woot is all about the OG Switch game deals this Black Friday

Amazon's Woot has unloaded a ton of savings on older Nintendo Switch games. That's great news if you happened to miss any last-generation games, especially as the Nintendo Switch 2 can play them all without issue. In fact, for some of these, you're gonna have a better time playing them on the new Ninty handheld than you would on the original, as they have free upgrades, which includes everything from HDR support to improve frame rates and visuals.

Holy Triforce - Walmart has sold 96% of its Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom stock

While browsing through Walmart's Switch game deals today, I just discovered that the retailer has apparently sold 96% of its remaining copies of the Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom for the Nintendo Switch.

Right now, if you pop onto its product page, you'll find that text that reads "96% of this deal is gone" and I'm not surprised. Spending just $30 for such a lovely Zelda title is a bargain, especially as it marks Princess Zelda's first ever solo adventure. (We don't talk about the CD-i games.)

If you're a big Zelda fan but gave this a miss last generation, I highly recommend you give it a go while Walmart still has 4% of its deal stock remaining. It's a gorgeous game, and it even sees a return of some classic Zelda character designs, like the adorable deku scrubs. Plus, it'll run even better on your Switch 2 as it has a free update available for the new handheld to improve performance and visuals.

Switch 2 Joy-Con are sold out at Woot, but all is not lost

The Switch 2 Joy-Con deal currently running at Woot is gone for now. That's not surprising, given that the controllers are full price pretty much everywhere else. A $10 deal is going to be pretty hard to ignore when it's the only deal of its kind going around.

You can still grab an extra pair of the official controllers, but they will cost you the full $99.99. MSRP. Honestly, I still think it's worth picking up an extra set, especially with the holidays right around the corner. Having two sets of Joy-Con means you're pretty much sorted when it comes to playing local co-op games like Mario Kart World and Super Mario Party Jamboree with the family.

I wish the Nintendo Switch Online controllers were discounted, but at least they're in stock

There are a lot of Black Friday retro gaming deals going around today, and a lot of record-low savings on retro-style controllers, too. Begrudingly, some of my favorite controllers to use with the Switch 2 are not included in this year's sales, but they are still in stock (for the most part).

I'm talking about the official Nintendo Switch Online gamepads that you can only pick up via the Nintendo store, which are designed to match that real-deal as closely as possible. I use the official GameCube controller almost every day with the Switch 2. It works really well instead of the Pro controller, and feels just the same as my official pads of that era, minus that horrible and limiting wire spewing out the top.

It's an incredible and authentic piece of kit, but it's still full price right now. At least, it's in stock at all, as I can't say the same for the SNES model. If you're after some authenticity when it comes to playing through your NSO games, or want to kid an old-school Ninty fan for the holidays, I've gathered all the official pads down below.

PSA - Amiibo card packs make for cute holiday gifts

One of my favorite things to do every December is to hide packets of collectible cards in my partner's Christmas card. Usually, I grab some of the best Black Friday Pokemon card deals and use them, but this year I also want to add in some Street Fighter 6 amiibo cards.

If you have a loved one who's really into collecting cards, amiibo, and even just Street Fighter 6, I highly recommend you do the same. A booster pack is just $5.99, and that gets you three special cards in total. They then can use them in-game with the Switch 2 version of SF6, or just keep them in a binder to stare at occasionally. It might sound like a simple gift idea, but you'd be surprised at how well it goes down, even when it's not the holidays. You could do it for birthdays too.

They originally launched for $29.99 just a few months ago, so that's an incredible bargain. You can now basically grab three for the same price it was to grab one - and I mean, if you're a Zelda fan, you should definitely consider doing that.

Trust me, you could always do with an extra pair of Switch 2 Joy-Cons

I've said it a lot this week, but I'm not gonna stop - having an extra pair of Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers is super handy. Not only does it mean you then have up to four controllers for playing the likes of Mario Kart World or Super Mario Party Jamboree with your pals, but it means you have spares in case the worst were to happen.

Woot understands this, and they've dropped $100 off the new official Switch 2 controllers, making this handy expensive more accessible than ever. I'd be grabbing this deal right this very second if I hadn't already asked Santa for a set for the holidays.

I hope the Switch Super Mario Galaxy Collection is always this easy to find in stock

When Nintendo first announced the Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 collection for the Switch and Switch 2, I was so worried that it would be a limited drop like Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

Physical copies of All Stars occasionally go for extortionate amounts of cash online, which makes it feel like more of a collector's item than a collection of games people can buy to actually play and enjoy. Fortunately, this new set of two classic Wii games is still in stock pretty much everywhere for its MSRP, including at Best Buy where it's even $6.49 less than full price. That means you can play and enjoy these incredible Galaxy adventures, without spending more than you should.

The Switch 2 Pokemon Legends Z-A bundle is sold out, but you should buy this instead

There are only two official Switch 2 bundles out in the wild, the Mario Kart World bundle and the Pokemon Legends Z-A bundle. However, the latter is extremely hard to find in stock. If it is in stock, you're likely to see it with an inflated cost. For example, you could pick it up for $629 at Walmart, but it was far cheaper at launch.

Just like the Mario Kart World bundle, it had an MSRP of $499, so you'd be spending $130 more here. Instead, I recommend just grabbing the standalone Switch 2 and a copy of Pokemon Legends Z-A separately, which would cost $518 altogether. Sure, you won't get that funky box with the Pokemon art all over it, but the Switch 2 looks entirely the same once you get that cardboard opened. That extra cost isn't worth it.

The first Switch 2 case I ever tested is part of this year's Black Friday deals

I've tested a lot of Switch 2 cases now that the handheld is more than a few months old, but this 4Gamers Premium Travel Case was the first I got to try out.

It's a plain all-black case, so its design didn't have that 'wow' factor, but I was impressed with it nonetheless. The case is simple, but sometimes that's exactly what you need. In this case (heh, get it), simple means providing storage for up to 12 physical game carts, and a fabric mesh pocket for smaller accessories. Its interior is coated in this plush fabric too, which helps keep the pricey handheld nice and soft thanks to its soft and light fibres.

Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle stock is still going strong

I'm so glad that stock of the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle is still going strong, even now that the actual Black Friday day is upon us.

I didn't expect it to sell out, as stock has been fine for a while now. However, it's nice to think that no one should have issues grabbing one today for the holidays. Y'know, besides the issue of affording an almost $500 console.

I can't wait to steal my in-laws stars in Super Mario Party Jamboree during the holidays

I love a bit of Mario Party, and every time I bring the Switch 2 over to the in-laws, you can bet my copy of Super Mario Party Jamboree is with me.

Mario Kart World is fun and all, but the luck involved with Super Mario Party Jamboree means everyone prefers to sit down and have a game. The brand-new mouse-controlled mini-games and Switch 2 camera game modes have just made it more of a joy to play than ever, and it's currently 99 cents off at Woot today.

That's a pretty nothing saving, but the Switch 2 version can be hard to find in stock at other retailers. With that in mind, it's worth grabbing if you're hoping for some Mario Party-fueled family rivalry over the holidays.

PSA - A spare Switch 2 AC adapter is a boring but super handy purchase

Much to my annoyance, the official Switch 2 AC Adapter is not included in this week's Black Friday Switch 2 deals. That being said, it's a really handy accessory to own a spare of, especially if you're a big handheld mode enjoyer like I am.

I have a spare Switch 2 AC adapter next to my bed, so I don't have to worry about the handheld dying on me in the middle of the night. Having it has meant I don't have to keep unplugging the Switch 2 dock in the main room either, which is super tedious, especially when there's more than one Switch 2 player in my house. I highly recommend you have a spare, whether you game in bed or not. (If it helps, you can charge your phone with it too, which has made mine more of a bedroom must-buy.)

You're in for a wonderful co-op time with this Super Mario Wonder deal

When Super Mario Wonder was originally released, I played through it with my fiancée and had an incredible time. Being able to share my love of the Super Mario series with my partner is always a blast, but the game's constant push to surprise us with new and unique power-ups made it one of the most memorable co-op experiences I've had in my 35 years of gaming.

If you're looking for a cozy, co-op adventure, you can grab it right now for $47.99 at Woot, a saving of $22 off its full price. Plus, like most older Switch games, it's naturally compatible on your Switch 2. (Otherwise I wouldn't bother to mention to amongst the rest of today's Switch 2 deals.)

I love that the entire Luigi's Mansion trilogy is playable on Switch 2

As a Nintendo and horror game fan, I love me some Luigi's Mansion. The games aren't Silent Hill levels of scary, but they're still super atmospheric and an absolute joy to play. With the release of the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube library, the first game in the series is playable on the Switch 2, which means the entire trilogy is now too.

If you haven't yet experienced these wonderful spooky games with Luigi at the helm, you owe yourself you grab them right now, especially now that the Black Friday Switch game deals have arrived. This Switch 2 case has never been cheaper and has one of my favorite unique features

I talk about the Belkin Carrying Case for the Nintendo Switch 2 a lot, but for good reason. It's one of the best Switch 2 cases I've tested (and reviewed) so far, as it's slim and compact enough to fit in my many backpacks, and it provides game and accessories storage to make gaming on the go a far better experience.

One of my favorite features of the case is that it has a hidden Apple AirTag pocket. That means, so long as you have one to spare, you can keep an extra eye on the case while travelling. If you're after 1TB of space for your Switch 2, you're in luck. This week, the 1TB capacity microSD Express card from Lexar dropped just below the $200 price mark, but now it's even cheaper at just $185.99 at Amazon today.

I say "just" when that's still a lot to pay for some storage. However, you are pretty limited when it comes to finding a Switch 2 card with 1TB worth of space. If you don't mind the cost, there's still plenty of stock left for this high-capacity card, and grabbing it is a great way to futureproof your new shiny, Ninty handheld.

Woot has 99 cents off Donkey Kong Bananza, which is better than nothing I guess

Rare find: refurbished OLED Switch deal for Black Friday

I was mourning how a refurbed Switch Lite had gone back up in price a few hours ago, but a new Black Friday Switch OLED deal has just made that one obsolete anyway.

Now rocking a 22% discount, this excellent condition renewed Switch OLED looks like the ultimate bargain pick for anyone looking to upgrade from the classic model this Black Friday. If you're dead set on a bargain this year despite desperately wanting the Switch 2, it's looking like you don't have many other options other than buying this or waiting until a future sale in the New Year.

It's thumb-azing

Good, my awful pun got your attention. Remember how I was moaning about the Switch 2 Joy-Con's lack of beautifying accessories a moment ago? I have just the things to dress them up properly: some discounted thumb grips I found on Amazon.

Speaking from personal experience, nothing says Joy-Con makeover like a snazzy new set of thumb grip. OK that was a terrible pun. Anyway, the Switch 2 edition of Persona 3 Reload (aka, one of the best JRPGs of all time) just became my favorite Black Friday Switch 2 game deal, because it's going for an absolute steal right now on Amazon!

This is a game I loved despite having zero comprehension of what the Atlus series was in the first place. I'd given the Xbox version of Persona 3 Portable a go in 2023, but I was not prepared for how visually and mechanically stunning Reload turned out to be and I got well and truly obsessed with it around February 2024. Turn-based tactics, elemental matchups, life sim elements... really, if you loved Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 this year, you're gonna love Persona 3 Reload.

However, its been long enough that you shouldn't have issues with most peripherals, especially ones that worked fine with the older Switch.

I know it's tempting just to grab a new headset, especially when you spot that bright read "Black Friday Deal" tab on Amazon. But before you get trigger happy, try testing out your older headsets, controllers and other accessories first. It might just save you some cash that you could put towards new Switch 2 games instead, like the upcoming Metroid Prime 4 Beyond.

Better Switch 2 SD cards are still to come, but this 256GB SanDisk saving isn't too shabby

On November 30, Nintendo is dropping $20 off the official Samsung microSD Express card, which should mean you can grab 256GB worth of extra storage for around $39.99. If you can't wait until Sunday, you can instead pick up the 256GB SanDisk microSD Express Card today at Amazon.

If I had to choose between grabbing the standalone Nintendo Switch 2 or the Mario Kart World bundle, it'd be the latter every time.

Sure, it pains me as a physical game collector that Mario Kart World is included as a redeemable digital game code, and there's no game box to be found. However, it's easier to cope with that fact once I remember that I'm saving $29 over buying the handheld and the game separately. Plus, now I permanently have the latest Mario Kart on my Switch 2 and don't have to get up to slot in the cart when friends come over, which is a nice bonus.

The official Samsung Switch 2 SD card is getting a $20 saving this weekend

If you've had your eyes on the official Samsung microSD Express Card for the last few months, you'll be happy to know it's receiving a chunky $20 discount on November 30.

Switch 2 microSD Express cards are notoriously pricey, so it'll be great to see it drop from its $59.99 price tag once the deal goes live. Nintendo stated that you can expect to find it with its new discounted price at Nintendo San Francisco and the Nintendo New York physical stores, as well as select retailers online, once it goes live. For now, it's still full price, but I recommend bookmarking its product page and checking back in on Sunday to catch this Black Friday saving while stock lasts.

I loved testing this stunning ghost RGB wired Switch 2 controller, and it's now $20 off

I know wired Switch 2 controllers aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I genuinely adored my time with this stunning PowerA pad. Its cable was long enough that I could still comfortably sit on my sofa while playing Pokemon Legends Z-A, but it wasn't that which impressed me the most.

This controller is equipped with Ghost RGB LED Lighting, which basically means that the combination of the lighting inside the controller and the translucent white chassis creates a ghostly glowing effect. I'm a big fan of RGB lighting in my gaming tech, but this is one of my favorite implementations of it in anything Switch 2 or gaming-related so far. PSA - Don't forget the Nintendo Switch 2 is backwards compatible

As alluring as all the current Nintendo Switch 2 game deals are this week, you don't have to buy them all up if you already have a large existing Switch game library. Most Switch games, digital and physical, work fine on the new handheld (with some exceptions), so you can keep playing through your older backlog without breaking the bank.

Of course, I won't stop you from going after some wonderful new Switch 2 experiences. Donkey Kong Bananza is one of my favorite Nintendo games in a long time, and it's exclusive to the new device. If you want to play it, you should definitely pick it up right now, as I wouldn't want you to miss out on DK's latest adventure.

Just remember, if your budget isn't that grand, you can always pick up older OG Switch games too for cheap instead.

Belkin's Switch 2 screen protector is a must-buy now that it's super cheap this Black Friday

I know a screen protector is a really boring purchase for any handheld, whether it's the Switch 2 or the Steam Deck, but trust me that it can make a huge difference. Before it, I noticed tiny abrasions to the 7.9-inch LCD display, and I was in a panic as my Switch 2 was so new. Our hardware team's resident retro expert Phil is a big fan of the Gulikit Elves Pro 2 controller, which is currently $40 off at Amazon. That's thanks in part to its premium features like its hall effect thumbsticks, a 1,000Hz polling rate, and HD haptic, but also because it's pretty travel-friendly too.

I haven't tried this out for myself, but if Phil states that it prompted them to "essentially ditch most other gamepads I used to use, including the Switch Pro controller" then it must be a wireless pad worthy of the Switch, or Nintendo Switch 2. Yes, I fully appreciate this version of No Sleep For Kaname Date on the Switch 2 is a game-key card, but hear me out. If you're a Somnium Files series fan, it's still a great game to have in your collection.

When I tested it out earlier this year, its little 40mm Neodymium speaker drivers made the jazz and big band stylings of the Mario Kart World soundtrack in free-roam mode sound so good, I'd often just sit and listen while not actually playing the game.
