There's more than a hint of Bloodborne and King's Field to Hark the Ghoul's low poly FromSoftware inspired dungeon crawling world of weird creatures and exporation. That's thanks to its dark victorian city setting, full of inhabitants long since parted from their sanity. And, deep in the bowels of the earth below, its labyrinthian tunnels full of fantastical creatures and other horrors to discover.
While games from FromSoftware's back catalogue are clear inspirations visually, Hark the Ghoul also plays heavily on the ideas of interconnectivity as you explore and discover more about its depths. Think of how you explore and open up the worlds in games like the Souls series and Hollow Knight, to get the idea.
In this exclusive, all new Future Games Show trailer you can see some of the skills you can use to survive, including a range of firearms, magic and melee weapons you can use to take on the monstrous enemies you'll encounter. You'll also notice a pretty hefty, multipurpose kick that can be used in a range of ways from fighting to solving puzzles.
How you combine these options is up to you. There's immersive sim like element to how you can mix up your skills, with an 'if you think it could work it probably will' feel to the action. Kick hazards at enemies? Sure. Use magic to clear a path? Go for it. Can't jump far enough to reach a certain area? How about throwing nails in the wall to make an improvised ladder?
However you take on the enemies and bosses you'll encounter, it's all about surviving long enough to explore Hark the Ghoul's seamlessly interconnected zones as you meet its cast of weird and wonderful characters in search of new secrets and better gear to fight with.
